My latest favorite pattern

These days, I’ve been repeating the same routine of practicing kyudo, working, and sleeping. Since the COVID-19 pandemic started, the wasai class has been suspended, which means I can’t make my own kimono even though I learned how to do so for 2-3 years. It’s frustrating that I can’t make them without my teacher’s guidance.

Recently, I’ve been practicing for my kyudo promotion exam wearing a kimono, so I’ve been searching for different patterns on Yahoo Auctions. I’ve noticed that I seem to like the tortoise shell pattern and hemp leaf pattern. Whenever I check my favorite items on Yahoo Auctions, these two patterns always catch my eye.

Anyway, today I’d like to introduce the kimono I recently acquired. It’s been dull wearing the same kimono every day, so it’s nice to have a change.

Even with kimono, it’s cute to have clothes with such patterns.

It’s a complex pattern with a in a golden yellow color with black lines and polka dots. The polka dots seem to be woven in a way that makes the fabric slightly raised.

I fell in love with it at first sight, but it took me two days to finally bid on it.

The other pattern is hemp leaf.

This fabric has an incredible level of starching, making it quite stiff even after washing. It’s kind of amazing, really. But I’m hoping it will be cool during the summer.

As you can see in the picture, even clothes with this kind of pattern can be cute.

It took me four or five days to bid on this one, though, because I was worried the pattern might be too big for a kimono used for kyudo (Japanese archery) practice.

Well, I don’t think I’ll fail the exam because of the pattern on my kimono, but it’s more fun to practice in clothes that you like, right?

Anyway, I won the auction and now I plan to shorten the hem and use the leftover fabric to make pockets and a chest piece. I’ll introduce it again once it’s finished.
